خلق(أو يخلق؟) من الشبه أربعين
I'm not sure if this has to do with me, personally, or with the people I come across; but a lot of times I just have to associate a face with someone else's. It's only pathetic when you think someone reminds you of someone else, but you just can't remember who exactly. In all other cases, which are the more common, it comes pretty easily and instantly.
But then again, I also associate accents. Voices, I don't do. Only accents. I'm pretty sure I mentioned this once about one of my professors last semester, a Greek. She talks like Arnold. Sounds harsh, but anyway.
While on the subject of my professors, I have to say: men make better lecturers than women.
Women can either bore you to death. Or bombard you with irrelevant material in a hour session that would usually take me 3 years to actually study. That's if I ever did 'study' in the first place.
But then again, boring you to death and bombarding you with (useful) knowledge is pretty much the same. O lena mn zeman mo gayelha: Fuck institutionalized eduaction.
So anyway, meet my two male professors.
The Finnish guy has a somewhat-uneasy-to-say-what-it-is exactly accent. Probably a Finnish accent of English? Shdarany awal mara a6ob 3end "Fen Landi".
Looks like the twin brother of this guy -->
Tawny shayef 'The Specialist' mn cham shahar, and to get this guy's name I had to go through the cast name and check one by one. 3AASH ELY YERED 3ALA EMAILATY 3OGOB ... lail7een ma rad 3ala emailaity.
The other professor is a British chap. Ridiculous overdone 'british accent', a lot like Hugh Grant. No fuck that. A lot like Tony Blair perhaps. You get the idea.
<-- This guy is Tiff Needell. Used to be a co-host of TopGear on BBC (only the best TV show in the world if you must know), and now is a host of 5th Gear on ... madry some british channel. Not as much as a 'twin brother' of my professor, but definitely related.
The two female professors.
Since one of them is French, she reminds me of all those silly English-second-language French peeps accent. She's the one that bores you to death. It's not personal, she just can't present in an interesting way. That's if she had something interesting to present in the first place.
The American can talk about a boring subject for a lifetime and never shut up. Le3nebo darich theba7teeny as'ela 3an types of research. Shayfa wayhi entay 3ashan tese'leeny 3an types (or was it methods) of research.
I'm talking about school because this is the first time since August 2004 that I get nervous. Fifty percent passes, anyone? Like the poem/song/saying/not sure goes: " Madri sheno madri sheno, dalooni madri meno madri meno wain "

i hate it when ppl think they have the right to say that flan looks like flan or like 3illan.. so u can see am a victim ;p the phrase "ambeeh 7adich tishbihen [insert name] niskha niskha chenich ehya mo bs khawat"! has haunted me for years!!

laialy, wain shayfatha hathy ely shabahteeha feha?
samboose, la its not that i "describe" them like that, its just that i sometimes 'have' to associate their facial features with someone else who ive seen some other place.. the pics were an example to let u guys know what i mean
and the concluding sentence, no idea if its a poem or a song (cant remember the words even)
jiji, again its not like ashabehhom 7ag elnas laken ana "arrabi6" mn nafsi..
but i can imagine it can get frustrating etha kelman yegolich teshabheen flana o 3ilana and u end up 'looking like' 1000 others

Temetwir,
You've got issues with brits & female professors :-p that's not so nice.
I know brits can be snobs sometimes, but then again, we all can be in some sense.
I know what you mean, though I try to avoid doing it. Like, if I associate this person to that, I might discover that *this* is an arse, and it sort of makes me hate *that* because *that* looks like *this*. But hey, that's just weirdo moi :-)

By متفرغ, at 13.2.06
plus u know ur right!
me i never had alot of female proffs or doctors.. and except for the "actual female 6beba" who have taught me; other female doctors tend to overload the slides with all sorts of info.. and they never think ahead about how long it would take them to finish their material in the assigned time slot.. y3ny we have this doctor who has NEVER finished a lecture! NEVER EVER!
am not saying male doctors dont do it.. bs this ONE mo 6abe3eya!
By jiji, at 13.2.06

so its settled: q8i female drs are great!

By Temetwir, at 13.2.06
When I`m reading your words about women-professors it seems to me you are discribing 2 our MALE lectures... I was falling asleep during lectures of the 1st one, & I could not withstand stupidity of the 2nd one which was veiled with clever words.
Really at my faculty women make better lectures(not all of them of course:P) But it`s only in our case...
The psychologist & the one who teaches science about religions were perfect. But they are not from my faculty ;-)
"a lot of times I just have to associate a face with someone else's" - really strange thing, Temetwir ;-) I never do it. I remember faces very well but only as individual.
& I like to listen to the voices of our lectures just to understand the dialect they speak.
Something like accent, yes :)
Sorry for my insolence but what is your faculty/specialization?
By Sever, at 13.2.06
eee Q80 male docs imfashlena! 7ata the non-q80 doctors e3aybon 3alehom ib jam3atna! they never come to skool! i have a collegue who has a project with such doctor ow masken lel7en met3alig mayadre wen allah ga6a cuz this lame q80 doctor never comes to skool! and get this: HE DOESNT GIVE LECTS EITHER!
q80 female doctors.. well thats new ;p the only 2 in my skool are ba7reneya who is quite good actually.. bs the other one is bulgarian! she is the nicest bs honestly she can never finish her lecture on time ;p
i think the only time we really benefit from attending classes is when the real ppl of ur profession give lectures!
By jiji, at 13.2.06
sever
then i guess it has to do with nationality AND gender, perhaps?
that's if we're torturing the generalization heh
i really only did mean my profs THIS year
its not really a specialization (becoz i have no idea what im doing, honestly) but my major is linguistics
jiji
so u reckon, q8i male + 'sel6a' = NO ?
could work that way..
and yeah, the ones ely 6abait 3endehom 3ejbaaa
punctual, articulate, and informing
bas b3eed 3an el gashmara, eldekatra elreyayeel ely daresoni aghlab`hom 3ala rasi
in KU, its the non-q8i-males that have an attitude .. and u cant blame them sometimes mn ely yeshofoona so i do symapthize (or empathize.. madri)
By Temetwir, at 13.2.06
i agree.. bs la 7aram no-q80 docs ma3endehom attitude problems! well except for one doc i had! he was a hendi proff. kan 7adda shirreer! can not emphasise on the word shireer enough! y3ny kan shirer le darajat ina when u ask a Q in class he will shout and scream like a maniac and tell u that he knows why students ask in class; its cuz they wanna waste my time!he was schizophrenic! sadly enough he also was the chairman of his department! he never allowed us to evaluate him at the end of each semester!!
until last yr.. we finally got to evaluate him.. and guess wut.. HE IS NOT THE CHAIRMAN ANYMORE! ta3al shoofa al7een 7adda 6ayeb ow sweeet ow bs eshofny ysallim 3alay ow etha dara 3ndy emte7an mo fi his subject egoley i will pray for u to get an A and after the test he woul come to me and ask me wut ive done!
bs sij majority of the non-q80 doctors are easily approached.. u can simply go to their office just to chat and have some laughs..
By jiji, at 13.2.06
Swair, I totally know who Baba Sanfoor is XD I can't believe that the later duf3aat are still calling him that!

By Temetwir, at 14.2.06
I apologize for the intrustion (but my curiousity is getting the better of me), were you an English major in KU, Tem? If so, you must have been in the duf3a right after mine :)
By Anonymous, at 14.2.06
sapphire
yup i was .. ana dif3at 2000
bas what makes u certain right after u?
By Temetwir, at 15.2.06
I'm from the 1999 duf3a, that's why. From your age, and that you're already starting your post-graduate study (like me), I thought our duf3a years would be close. I'm not sure you'd remember me, though!

ur doing ur postgrad degree with the department? MA and PhD?
o madry walla, we've been in the same class u reckon?
By Temetwir, at 15.2.06
Yeah, I am :) I'm not sure if we've ever been in the same class, though. My memory of other students is hazy at best, and I was surprised that more than a few students have decided to pursue post-grad after surviving the whirlpool of department competitiveness and gossip. English major students were an interesting bunch, to recall.

one of my drs told me abt ur "group" .. u were like 5 or 6 being accepted at the same time (if this is ur 2nd yr)
i then decided "why waste 4-6yrs of my life", opted the dept option out and stuck with the lang cent only
el7amdelah kheera.. yam3awda i couldnt stand studying in KU, hal dor postgrad in the UK? ensaaaay heh
aham so'al: SHLONECH WEYA DR NASIR ILGANOR?
By Temetwir, at 15.2.06
Now I'm squeezing my brain trying to figure out which "group" this is!
Actually, this is my first year, and only three students were accepted (myself, another female and a male students) at the same time. I hadn't majored in linguistics, so I never had the chance to take a class by Dr. Alganoor :/
I think you did the right thing, that is, what is better and more productive for you :) Believe me, so many circumstances have happened while applying through other venues that led me to believe that my current choice is what best for me, as well.
Now I'm racking my brain trying to remember this group of five!
By Anonymous, at 15.2.06

la la, ana ra7 baly 3ala ely safaraw gabelkom b sina.. they were five (or six)
khalid, the one male ely menkom, is a friend and now he's in florida.. great guy
in regards my choice, el7amdelah im convinced it was the right move for two reasons: saving yrs, and the fact that ill be teaching english, as opposed to "linguistics" inshalla en allah wafagna o radait (ana engalaizy wekhob 3alay, haldor linguistics? khair inshala)
now with a new director for el markaz, enshala yegdar yethabe6na weya il3amada and bump our salaries one more time.. yomha bath7ak 3ala khalod the7ek :P
By Temetwir, at 15.2.06
I remember Khalid from the interview! (What a horror movie that was for the girls, that and the mini-fiasco that accompanied it). I wish him the best of luck. Inshallah they raise your salaries, God knows you guys in the UK need it. I live in a relatively cheap state, so I'm not concerned about money.
By Anonymous, at 15.2.06
sapphire laaa la, 3ady el7amdelah ma3ashain masheen right now o alf 7amd o shekir lek ya raby 3al ne3ma
but i meant salaries of language instructors back at KU .. ako 7achy saayer ena yemken yethumoonhom weya "a3thaa' hay'at tadrees" (phds) and there would be another jump in salary
the last raise included a number of benefits and all that .. laken khobrech, bany aadam maygol "bas" :P
