Count
Because I was more serious preparing for my IGCSE Biology exams than I am serious nowadays for the sake of this degree, I present to you 34 more movies. All hollywood, and all supposedly out on dvd, available on torrents, aired on some channel, even came to Kuwaiti cinemas - point being, the only excuse you have for not watching any of these is because you chose not to. If you didn't know about any of these, then that's even worse.
Gents, whoever has already seen most of these, you and I will seriously make good friends.
Ladies, whoever has already seen all of these then, baby, will you marry me?
^ makes more sense now in 2006 than it did when it first came out
^ proof that you don't need anything but good dialogue and good acting to make a great flick
^ not many of this genre that i know of, anyone?
^ anyone else thought this was genius?
^ anyone else felt like an idiot at the end for falling for it?
^ "IT'S ALL ABOUT MONEY, KID. THE REST IS JUST CONVERSATION"
^ "you wanna go home, or you wanna go to jail?"
^ "iz no' as though iz a bag a fakin peanuts, izi?"
^ one scene makes it all worthwhile
^ arguably THE best movie of ALL time
^ watch and relate to Kuwait & drug distribution^ epic
^ the quote-movie
^ fucked up
^ ahahah
^ interesting to say the least
^ i cried
^ better than the godfather imho .. ok, at the same level
^ best in its genre .. if it has a 'genre'
^ 7tenths: this is the movie with "YOU REALLY ARE A FUNNY GUY"
^ not sure if there's been better dialogue
^ i laughed
^ disturbing, great nonetheless
Count how many you've watched - not for the sake of counting, but so you can WATCH THE REST.

I've seen 3 :| ones I want to watch, I'd say Syriana I've been meaning to watch it for some time..
Ones I've seen are 3 Kings, Boiler Room and Mystic River (LOVED Mystic River...I'm convinced Sean Penn is the best actor in Hollywood)
By Faith, at 27.5.06
wow.. i own over half of them! I started a list of my favorites from urs, but ended up with most of them. I've done another round up and ended up with these: Phonebooth, Usual Suspects, Shawshank Redemption, The Count of Monte Cristo, SEVEN (WOW!), HEAT (wowza!), Boiler Room, SLEEPERS!!
Only one I haven't seen, not because I don't want to, but because I'm waiting to be prepared for some serious heart ache: Hotel Rwanda.
By MSB, at 27.5.06

(warning: this is gonna be long)
i've seen 14 out of 34?! UNFAIR! (but on the bright side: yay! more movies to see)
the ones i've seen:
*PhoneBooth: i don't like Kiefer Sutherland, but i hate Colin Farrell, so i loved Keifer for annoying the hell out of Colin :p oh, and interesting ending..
*Minority Report: me + the storyline= luff luff luff
*Training Day: let's just say Denzel deserved the hell out of that Oscar lol
*Snatch: what i loved about this movie: story, accents, Brad Pitt's abs. oh, and i almost cried when they burned brad pitt's mom's trailer.
*Traffic: never knew i'd actually like Catherine Zeta Jones in this movie.
*Count of Monté Cristo: Alexandre Dumas should've been famous for THIS, not the three musketeers.. oh, and Jim Caviezel is my future husband lol :p
*Se7en: i love Morgan Freeman. and i enjoyed the Gwyneth Paltrow killing scene. the rest: gruesome but in a good way.
Scarface: and ppl wonder why i love the name Tony Montana.
Mystic River: Sean Penn= most loveable guilty (for killing Tim Robbins) guy in the world. the best childhood-to-adulthood movie even though i cried.
L.A. Confidential: two words: Kevin Spacey.
Good Will Hunting: the first time i fell in love with Matt Damon and his script. the millionth time i fall in love with Robin Williams. the begining of my hate for Ben Affleck.
Heat: oh come on, as if it needs a reason to love it! (let's just say it's the only movie on VHS tape that i still watch)
Arlington Road: i love history, so the history of terrorism mentioned was interesting.. Tim Robbins was ruthless, which was amazing.. and the ending was a great (unpredictable) climax for the movie.
Goodfellas: what can be better than a Martin Scorsese & Robert DeNiro mix?
By Ms. Sarah, at 28.5.06
swair: chineh u gave away a couple spoilers in ur comment? hehe.. ashwa i've seen them! :)
By MSB, at 28.5.06
I would never watch such movies.
By Anonymous, at 28.5.06
swair,
great 14 movies.
- u missed out BRITISH HUMOR from the list of what u loved abt snatch
- watch 21 grams for sean penn
- watch Casino: de niro, pesci, james woods, and of course: Scorsese
tinkerbell,
really??
cant blame u for platoon (i dont think its THAT easy to get a copy), but u should really watch Heat..
i think i love you by the way ;]
true faith
ud rather watch finding nemo & toy story?
gotta hate happy ppl :P
By Temetwir, at 28.5.06
the usual suspect was awesome, I'd watch it again.
I've seen like 15 of those, I wanted to see Syriana still didn't get the chance to, about 2 kings, I was happy to see alot of Kuwait in that movie but yeah it didn't have alot to do with reality I just thought whatever, after all it is make believe.
By Spontaneousnessity, at 28.5.06
I'd still watch finding nemo and toy story! =P
gatta believe in openning your mind and exploring your options
By Spontaneousnessity, at 28.5.06
and if you're into foreign movies I highly recommend the italian movie "La vie est belle"
By Spontaneousnessity, at 28.5.06
have you watched the da vinci code
By A3sab, at 28.5.06
spont,
definitely look into Syriana ..
ull think that Clooney should consider entering the more-serious-tone of movies full time (esp. after his role and directing of goodnight & goodluck)
havent watched finding nemo, couldnt care less for 'them' happy flicks + ill look into the italian movie
tinkerbell,
the list
om mejrin,
nope.. was planning on doing that after i hand in my essay
if i manage, ill let u know how it goed
By Temetwir, at 28.5.06
LOL, yea british humor is a must.. (Monty Python, anyone? :p)
I have 21 grams, just haven't seen it yet.. ( Naomi Watts with no make-up on.. YAY!)
Okay, i love DeNiro, Pesci, James Woods (luv him luv him luv him), and Scorsese... i just seriously hate Sharon Stone :/ (she can't act, she's just a movie star cos she got naked on screen and didn't mind flashing her hoo-ha)
was there a stupider movie than Basic Instinct? it was just porn with a (supposedly) big cast in it (Douglas.. ew)... i guess i can watch Casino & just close my eyes and hear the dialogue when she comes on the screen lol (no pun intended)
By Ms. Sarah, at 28.5.06
swair,
bel3aks stone badi3at b casino .. i think its the only movie that she actually acted in, and proved without doubt that she CAN act but chooses not to i guess
21 grams is .. interesting to say the least
i think ull like it
By Temetwir, at 28.5.06
i read that 21 grams is about lives colliding ( a la Crash- which i loved), so it's gotta be good.. and Sean Penn is amazing (apparently Madonna brings out the worst in ppl, he got better at movies AFTER he left her... and when was the last time u saw a good Guy Richie movie like Snatch and Lock,Stock, and 2 Smoking Barrels?)
By Ms. Sarah, at 28.5.06
29 checked.
Here's my top ten of that list:
Reservoir Dog
The usual Suspects
The Shawshank Redemption
Rounders
LA Confedential
Lock, Stock..
Arlington Road
Hotel Rawanda
Platoon
Se7en
Cham bugalee?

directed by Alejandro Inarritu = amores perros (courtesy of zeecu btw).. so u KNOW its gonna be good
tinkerbell
i have fight club and donnie brasco in the previous post ;] didnt want to repeat
the godfather is sorta redundant becoz THERE IS NO QUESTION abt it (as well as taking up 3 slots)
shurog
mad respect for the list.

The ones I like best are:
The Shawshank Redemption
Seven

By ScarlO, at 28.5.06
**thinks scarlie needs help** WATCH FINDING NEEEEMOOO..Watch it its sooooo cute!!! And four brothers..Did you see four brothers??
By LiLaCs, at 28.5.06
I've seen 30 out of these 34, I think. Shawshank Redemption being my favorite. It captured the story masterpiece perfectly. I totally hated Count of Monte Cristo (movie), though, so that might put a stop to our marriage plans :(
By Anonymous, at 28.5.06
scarlo
being john malkovich was a good movie
forrest gump is definitely a great film.. just not the type that id watch over and over
lilacs
happy endings make me want to shoot myslef.. or something
and yep i saw Four Brothers .. i thought it was pretty decent
sapphire
the count of monte cristo succeeded in being 'epic' in that it covered a lot of time and land .. i dont think a lot of movies give u that sense.
then again im ignorant, i didnt read the book so i dont have anything to measure it against
- 30 out of 34 is enough provided that the 4 u havent watched r old, and that u actually liked the rest of the 29 movies after the count of monte cristo
enty lo'-6a 3ala golat`hom id be an idiot to pass on the chance of trying out my luck ;]
By Temetwir, at 28.5.06
ygoloon inna amazon is good u can i think rent three dvds one time and return them then u recieve another 3 .... its easy once u finish from the dvd just put it in the envelope and then to the mail box no need to buy any stamps .... about the dissertation i will be doing one next year its an option cant even think how i will write 10000 words (2500 oo 6al3a roo7y) Allah yaster .... bas there will be less examinations next year ... oo mwafag inshalla :)
By متفرغ, at 28.5.06
metfarigh,
yup, thats the way screenselect works too
but hey, i reckon amazon would have the biggest inventory (just an uneducated guess) so maybe its the better idea
since ur staying for another yr, definitely consider it if u really love movies and can make the time - the best thing is the older movies u cant get a hold of anywhere else + documentaries ;]
as for the dissertation, dont sweat it 7abeeb el sha3b .. i had the EXACT same idea 8 months ago "oh boy what am i gonna write" and all that .. its ~15k words but i thought of it like this:
write chapters as if theyre mini essays (3k words each), do it efficiently in terms of time as to leave space for editing and more editing to make it flow and connect
ull definitely propose a topic to a potential supervisor, so it will collect ur thoughts and ull geat a better idea.. these seperate but related thoughts = chapters
plz dont be insulted by the fact that a knit-wit like myself is giving u academic advice :|
By Temetwir, at 28.5.06
Thank God for Netflix! *adds remaining movies to her queue*
What ruined the movie experience for me that the Count of Monte Cristo is up in my top five books of all time, otherwise I'd have enjoyed the movie greatly. When I recommend to people that they read the unabridged 1200pages novel, they feel like hitting me >.> Tackle it if you apprecate plot art at its finest (Dumas is too wordy for his own good, though).
*blocks her ears at the mention of dissertation*
By Anonymous, at 29.5.06
vintage
u shouldnt miss hustle and flow.. id say its even better than Capote,
unreal performances too
sapphire
yea i guess that makes sense.. like u had higher expectations from the movie but it didnt seem to deliver compared to the book
dissertation,dissertation,dissertation,dissertation,
By Temetwir, at 29.5.06
I've only watched about half of them, which is a crying shame. I def def definitely need to watch the rest. Although I'm not sure about Minority Report if only because Crazy-Eyes Cruise makes my thetans antsy. You have some of my all time favorites on that list, even if you're lacking a little Dustin Hoffman. If you like 'wiseguy' movies then you've probably watched Taxi Driver 'you talkin to me?' and The Untouchables 'you're muckin with a G', but if not, give them a whirl. And if you like Memento then you'd probably like Donnie Darko, which is effin creepy in the best way. Bringing Out the Dead is pretty psychedelic as well (read a visual acid trip), but it isn't something I'd watch over and over.
By SnoCone, at 29.5.06
Ok, here's the thing ::
Because of your last post (sailema), I had made a system (a bunch of scripts) that will check a website for any new anime (animation) episodes; When one I want is found, it sends me an SMS.
I reply back to my PC instructing it to download it.
This is how far I go to stay update to my fav. anime XD
Because I'm in mid finals, I don't have much time, but soon I'll customize it to accomodate any website, not just anime; That way, I'll keep posted with my tech-news, too!
So, the butter, thank you for motivating me.
By MBH, at 29.5.06
snocone,
yeelow and welcome ;]
- yup, saw taxi driver.. didnt think the plot was great or anything, but the transition of de niro (and seeing keitel) was great .. truth be told, i "grew up" on a totally diff tone of movies, so prolly thats that.
- ive started watching donnie darko yesterday - althu i promised id watch it in one sitting.. seems cool
the smurf/ette scene was hilarious.
- bringing out the dead didnt do it for me.. i remember ppl relating it to taxi driver, but i definitely wasnt impressed
laialy,
i thought one hr photo was creepy..
death to smoochy, definitely liked
mbh,
neat stuff ;]
as far as anime goes, i tried watching Initial-D .. but it just didnt happen, ended up deleting 4gigs worth or something after 10 mins heh
anime movies may be a diff story, insofar as they dont have robots, and dont have chicks with blue hair ;]

I have seen all those movies, literally. Honestly, I disagree with a couple of them but overall, you got class.
Scorcese + Deniro's best movies ! Goodfellas and Casino (although Taxi Driver would make a great addition) you got also Sleepers which is great but if Deniro's role was a little bit longer I might've liked it better ;p. Heath and Scarface .. Two thumbs way Up !
Aside from living legends, I really really enjoyed, Memento .. I just can't say enough about this movie. Also, the shawshank redemption, that one really shook me.
Guy Ritchies movies are awesome, I tend to disagree with the majority of people when I say lock stock is a tad bit better than Snatch. but great movies ! I sawy layer cake earlier this year and it really reminded me of Guy ritchies style !
oh yeah, Casino is good but you cannot compare it to the Godfather, it's not about which movie is better, it's about the balance comparing .. there is No balance in comparing those too ;p
Okay, that's what I wanted to say. Inspite of disagreeing with you in some of your choices, I really liked your taste in mvoies .. but I've seen better ;p.
